The spotlight will be firmly on star athlete Neeraj Chopra as he spearheads India's charge on Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Friday.
The Olympic champion will compete in the men's javelin throw final alongside Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh. Judo will also see medal events with Tulika Maan and Avtar Singh in contention on Friday.
Athletics will take centre stage with medal events in men's and women's 4x100m relay and the men's decathlon. India also have medal chances in the 4x400m mixed relay, with Muhammed Ajmal, Rupal, and Kiran Pahal in the lineup. In the decathlon, Tejaswin Shankar lies second after the first day, with the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m scheduled for Friday.
India's medal tally stands at 13, and Day 9 could add significantly to that count. After a busy boxing day on Friday, 10 Indian boxers, including Lovlina Borgohain, will be in action. Several more are also in line for a podium finish. While Neeraj and his compatriots aim for the top spot in the javelin final, the Indian athletes will be determined to end the day on a high.
