Speed Post New Rules: The festival of Rakhi is approaching, and sisters have already begun their preparations. Siblings living apart due to work or studies often exchange Rakhis and gifts for the occasion, with booking processes starting well in advance. During this time, India Post's Speed Post and Registered Post services experience a surge in volume. Occasionally, a Rakhi sent by post fails to reach the brother on time, or a brother's gift to his sister is delayed. However, the Department of Posts has now introduced changes to its rules.

If your Rakhi or gifts do not arrive on time, you can take action and file a complaint. The Department of Posts has also made provisions for refunds.

It is natural to worry if a Rakhi sent to a brother for the festival does not arrive on schedule. If a Rakhi sent via India Post goes missing or is delayed, it is important to understand the security and delivery procedures, as well as the department's regulations.

To make its services more secure, transparent, and efficient, India Post has implemented significant changes to the rules governing Speed Post and delivery processes, effective August 1, 2026. Under these new regulations, strict measures have been introduced regarding security, technological upgrades, and parcel categorization.

Tracking Your Post
The receipt issued when you post your Rakhi contains a 13-digit Consignment Number. You can track your parcel by visiting the official India Post website (www.indiapost.gov.in) and using the 'Track N Trace' option. This allows you to see the date and location (post office or hub) where the parcel was last scanned. If the online status is not updated, you can call the India Post national customer care number at 1800-266-6868.

File an Online Complaint
If you check your parcel's status and find that it is stalled or has not been delivered, you can file a complaint online via the Post Office website. Navigate to the 'Complaints' section on the website and click on 'Register Complaint'. You will need to select the service type and provide details such as the booking date, the addresses and mobile numbers of both the sender and the recipient. Once the complaint is registered, you will receive a reference number, which can be used to track the status of your complaint.

If the Department of Posts fails to deliver a document or parcel within the stipulated timeframe, the full postage fee is refunded in accordance with the rules.

It is worth noting that the Department of Posts has launched premium services guaranteeing delivery within 24 and 48 hours; these services are currently operational in major metropolitan cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
