Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca is putting his squad together ahead of the new season.

Manchester City have now agreed their next move in the summer transfer market.

The Citizens are going through one of the most significant transfer windows in their recent history, with the likes of John Stones, Bernardo Silva and, most importantly, Pep Guardiola all having left Eastlands.

There could still be more major developments before the deadline, but first Manchester City have agreed a deal to re-sign a former player.

According to Spanish sports journalist Uriel Iugt, City have reached an agreement to bring back former goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

The report says the Argentine has agreed to a two-year contract, while talks are continuing with Marseille regarding the transfer fee.

Rulli is widely expected to act as back-up to Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma for the Citizens after James Trafford's departure to Leeds United.

Trafford was signed last summer as City's new No. 1 after Ederson left the club following eight years in goal. However, only a few weeks into the season, the England international was reduced to the role of cup goalkeeper when City got the chance to sign Donnarumma as their first-choice keeper.

Foot Mercato in France reports that Rulli's departure will help facilitate Marseille's move for Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaumes Restes, with City's negotiations for the 34-year-old said to be “progressing well”.

Marseille are reportedly asking for around £3 million for Rulli, who was first signed by City 10 years ago after impressing on loan at Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Rulli did not play a single minute for City, instead returning to San Sebastian on loan before making that move permanent in January 2017.

After spending the 2019/20 season on loan in Ligue 1 with Montpellier, Rulli joined Villarreal in 2020. He then became the hero of that season's Europa League final shootout, saving David De Gea's penalty and scoring his own to secure Unai Emery's side their first-ever European trophy.

He was also part of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup in 2022, and was among the players who lifted the 2024 Copa America before serving as a back-up figure in this summer's World Cup.

Rulli is valued at €6m. City begin their Premier League campaign at home against Marco Rose's Bournemouth.
