Despite completing their MBBS studies, thousands of students are unable to appear for foreign licensing examinations. This is because the institutions where they completed their MBBS have not fulfilled the requirements for the ECFMG "Sponsor Note" in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

It is worth noting that this Sponsor Note serves as confirmation that an institution meets all ECFMG criteria. Its primary objective is to maintain a list of government-recognized medical colleges worldwide.

**How ​​Colleges Apply**
Students from medical institutions that possess this Sponsor Note are eligible for ECFMG certification. Colleges can apply online for credential verification after their first batch of graduates completes the course or five years after the admission of the first batch, whichever comes later.

**Eligibility for Foreign Licensing Exams**
Most medical colleges initiate this process once they have conducted the medical internship for their first batch (12 months after the course ends). However, students often discover only after completing their MBBS that their college lacks the ECFMG Sponsor Note. They realize the institution does not have the necessary Sponsor Note for foreign licensing exams only when they attempt to register for tests like the USMLE, the UK's PLAB, or other similar examinations.
