An official familiar with the case confirmed this development on Friday. The FIR was lodged on July 29 based on a complaint that accused the woman of using offensive language against Modi during a demonstration on July 23, which protested the leak of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) question paper.
Details of the Allegations
According to the complaint, the alleged comments were said to undermine the dignity of the Prime Minister's office and posed a risk of inciting hostility within society, potentially disrupting public peace. The case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 352 (deliberate insult to provoke breach of peace), Section 353(1) (public mischief), and Section 356(1) (criminal defamation). Since the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Delhi Police, the case has now been handed over to them.
Next Steps in the Investigation
A senior officer from the Delhi Police, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated that once they receive the FIR copy, they will review the details of the zero FIR, discuss the matter internally, and seek legal advice on how to proceed with the investigation. The officer assured that the inquiry would be conducted in full compliance with the law and established guidelines. Sources indicate that the transferred FIR will be assigned to the Parliament Street police station.
