The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the names of 12 venues that will host the matches in the 2027 World Cup. South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia are the host nations. Interestingly, it was Kenya that was the third host nation alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe in the 2003 fifty-over World Cup. Namibia had made their debut on the global stage during the same tournament. 

South Africa has been awarded eight venues, while Zimbabwe has three. Harare and Bulawayo are the famous venues, while Fale Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium is set to make its debut during the event. As per reports, the stadium will be ready in the next few weeks. 

The Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek will be the only venue for the third host nation. The venue has hosted five ODI matches so far, out of which the home team has won just two. The ICC put out a tweet which read: “Three nations, one heartbeat. 12 venues. One unforgettable CWC 2027 in sight.”

How has India done in each of the 2027 ODI World Cup venues?

Wanderers Stadium – Johannesburg

The world-famous stadium has hosted 57 ODI games, out of which India has played ten times here. The Men in Blue have won four games at this venue, with one match getting washed out and five losses. Their last match here saw the team win by eight wickets with 200 balls to spare as Arshdeep Singh took a brilliant fifer against the Proteas.

Centurion – Tshwane 

This was the same venue where India played Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup, and Sachin Tendulkar hit Shoaib Akhtar for the famous upper-cut six. Out of the 13 matches played in Centurion, the side has managed to win six games, with two no results and five losses. 

Cape Town – Newlands 

Two-time ODI World Cup winners have played six matches in Cape Town and gone on to win three matches. Last time they played at this venue, it was the hosts who went on to win the game by 4 runs despite Deepak Chahar’s gritty all-round show. 

Durban – Kingsmead 

Considered a tough place to play cricket, especially under lights, Durban is a haven for the fast bowlers. India has played ten games here and managed to win three games and have lost six times, with one match being washed out. Their most famous win came in 2003 when current Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra took 6/23 against England. 

St George’s Park- Gqeberha

The Indians have played seven ODI games here and have managed to win just once. They have, in fact, even managed to lose against Kenya at this very venue. Their only success came during the 2018 tour where they beat the hosts by 73 runs thanks to Rohit Sharma’s 115 and Kuldeep Yadav’s 4-wicket haul. 

Mangaung Oval – Bloemfontein

Out of the 34 matches played at this venue, the 2011 World Cup winners have played thrice here and managed only one win. That sole success came against Kenya in 2001, where the side managed to win by ten wickets. 

Boland Park – Paarl 

Paarl has hosted 17 ODI games and is one of the venues where there are good runs on offer for the batters. India has been part of six matches at this venue, where they have won three, lost two, with one tied match in 1997 against Zimbabwe. Sanju Samson played his last ODI game here, where he scored a century and was never considered in this format again. 

Buffalo Park – KuGompo City

The team has played just three games at this centre, and their only win came way back in 1992 when the likes of Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri were still part of the side. Team India has lost the other two matches at this venue. 

Harare Sports Club and Queen’s Sports Club -Harare and Bulawayo 

The Indian side has played 25 matches at the Harare Sports Club, out of which they have won 19 matches, lost five, with one game being abandoned. If we speak about the Queen’s Sports Club, then the Men in Blue have played ten games, winning seven and losing three.
