Train Journey: If you travel long distances by train and carry a lot of luggage, this news is important for you. Keeping passenger convenience in mind, Indian Railways has simplified the process of booking excess luggage. Now, passengers with confirmed tickets will be able to book their excess luggage online.
IRCTC, a railway PSU, launched this new facility on July 31st. Previously, passengers had to visit the parcel office at the railway station to book excess luggage, where they had to book luggage beyond the free baggage limit. Now, this facility will be available on the online platform.
Facility will be applicable according to weight limits
Under this new system, passengers will be able to provide information about excess luggage allowance when booking tickets. However, this facility will only be available to passengers with confirmed reserved tickets.
When booking luggage online, passengers must indicate that the luggage is for personal use and will be carried in their reserved coach only, not in the luggage van. This facility will be applicable according to the weight limits set by the Railways. The Railway Board has issued instructions to all zonal railways to implement this facility from July 31.
