New Delhi: The Tesla Model Y is now available in India with new artificial intelligence features, the big one being the Grok AI assistant. The new AI features including Grok assistant integration, are being pushed through an over-the-air (OTA) update without any additional cost. It is being said to “bring conversational intelligence directly into the cabin” for all Model Y in India.
Along with unveiling new AI-powered features, Tesla also confirmed that it has commenced test drives of the Model Y Premium RWD trim at its dealerships across India.
The feature has been available in international markets since 2025. It now comes to India and can be received through Tesla’s Summer 2026 over-the-air (OTA) software update at no additional cost. The newest update expands automatic navigation beyond preset Home and Work locations. This lets the system recommend destinations based on a driver’s daily routines, habits and schedule.
What functions can Grok AI do in Tesla?Drivers can activate the assistant by saying “Hey Grok” or by pressing the voice command button on the steering wheel. The AI supports several Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. This makes voice interaction more accessible for local users.
It can assist with planning multi-stop trips, locating nearby Tesla Superchargers, restaurants, cafés, hospitals, ATMs and much more. Further, it can also explain vehicle notifications and warning messages. Users can even customise Grok’s voice, language and conversational style according to their preferences.
In India, the Tesla Model Y is available in two variants, which include the five-seat Premium Rear-Wheel Drive priced at Rs 50.89 lakh and the seven-seat L Premium All-Wheel Drive priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (both ex-showroom). Tesla arrived in India last year and recently launched the Model Y Premium RWD in May. The electric SUV competes with rivals such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and BYD Sealion 7.
