Since 2025, the United States has deported a total of 4,840 Indian citizens. This figure includes 1,273 individuals who were sent back between January and July of this year, as reported by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.
Details from the Ministry
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “As of January 1, 2026, the total number of Indians returned from the US stands at 1,273. In 2025 alone, 3,567 Indian nationals were deported from the United States.” His remarks came in response to a question during a regular press briefing.
Collaboration on Deportation Issues
Jaiswal emphasized that India is actively collaborating with various governments on matters related to deportation. He mentioned, “Whenever such cases are brought to our attention, we conduct necessary investigations to confirm the citizenship of the individual being deported.”
Verification Process
He further explained, “Only after we are fully satisfied that the individual in question is an Indian citizen do we arrange for their return to India.” The administration under President Donald Trump has been conducting a significant campaign against illegal immigrants, resulting in a high number of deportations.
