On Friday, officials from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) conducted an extensive eight-hour interrogation of L. Khyangte, the former chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), in connection with alleged irregularities in the examinations organized by the commission. This marked the third time Khyangte was summoned for questioning, as confirmed by a CID official.
The official reported that Khyangte arrived at the CID office around 11 AM and left approximately eight hours later, around 7 PM. Previously, he had been interrogated for about nine hours on Tuesday and eight hours on Wednesday. Khyangte resigned from his position as JPSC chairman on July 22. The CID has also conducted searches at multiple locations, including his official residence, related to the alleged irregularities in the JPSC examinations.
On Monday, Khyangte stated that he voluntarily resigned to ensure a fair investigation into the matter. He was appointed as the JPSC chairman in February of the previous year after retiring from the position of chief secretary of the state. To date, the CID has arrested 11 individuals in connection with this case.
In response to protests from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the commission postponed the JPSC Combined Civil Services (Main) Examination, originally scheduled from July 25 to July 27, citing 'unavoidable circumstances.' Meanwhile, a group of students has been staging an indefinite sit-in near the Jaipal Singh Stadium, demanding a CBI investigation into the alleged JPSC exam irregularities. The protesting students have expressed their opposition to the involvement of political parties in their movement, emphasizing that it is a non-political protest and that they will not allow any political leaders or representatives to share the platform.
