Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Friday due to uproar and sloganeering by opposition members. The House will next meet on Monday, August 3, at 11 am. As soon as the House met, necessary papers were laid on the table. Opposition members then demanded that Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge be allowed to speak. Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan later allowed Kharge to speak, but clarified that any notice given under Rule 267 would not be accepted.
Following this decision, opposition members began raising slogans on various issues, including the paper leak and the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Temple. The House proceedings were disrupted amid the continued uproar.
During the uproar, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a scathing attack on the opposition, accusing them of engaging in “street-style politics” in the House. He said that government ministers are present in the House, but the opposition is undermining its dignity. He alleged that the decorum of democracy and the Constitution is being violated, and that the opposition only seeks to create chaos by spreading anarchy. He said that the opposition has no concern for the public, and the country is watching.
As opposition members continued to shout slogans, the Chairman adjourned the Rajya Sabha for the day. The House will next meet on August 3 at 11 am.
