Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised Neeraj Chopra and Yashvir Singh for their historic double podium finish in the men's javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games. He highlighted their silver and bronze medal achievements as a significant milestone for Indian athletics, calling it a proud moment for the nation.

At the Commonwealth Games 2026, India made history in athletics as Chopra secured the silver medal while debutant Singh earned bronze in the men's javelin throw, marking a landmark double podium finish for the country.

"A memorable double podium finish! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for winning Silver and Yashvir Singh for claiming Bronze in the Men's Javelin Throw at the Commonwealth Games. This is the first time two Indians have finished on the podium for this event, a truly proud milestone for Indian athletics!" Mandaviya expressed in a post on X.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage delivered an outstanding performance, clinching the gold medal with a remarkable throw of 89.75m achieved on his second attempt.

Mandaviya also extended his congratulations to Tejaswin Shankar for making history by winning India's first-ever medal in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games. He commended the athlete's bronze medal achievement, expressing national pride in this landmark success.

"History has been made in the Men's Decathlon! Congratulations to TOPS athlete Tejaswin Shankar for winning Bronze and securing India's first-ever CWG medal in the Decathlon. The entire country is proud of you," Mandaviya stated in another post on X.

Shankar concluded the competition with an impressive total of 7,976 points, marking a significant achievement for Indian athletics.

He secured the bronze medal after a strong performance in the final event, the 1500m race, where he clocked a time of 4:36.19.

Despite facing a late challenge from an English competitor, Shankar maintained his position as his rival's time of 4:32.29 was insufficient to surpass him, allowing the Indian athlete to achieve a historic podium finish.
