Jason Sanjay, son of actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, is awaiting the release of his directorial debut with Sigma, starring Sundeep Kishan. Ahead of the film's release, the young director opened up about his journey into cinema in one of his first interviews. During the candid conversation, Jason shared his dream international collaboration, revealing that he would love to cast his father alongside Hollywood action star Jason Statham. He also spoke on why he chose directing over acting, despite growing up around one of Tamil cinema's biggest stars.

Speaking to DD (  for Behindwoods TV, Jason Sanjay was asked to imagine a scenario in which Hollywood actor Jason Statham watched Sigma, enjoyed the film and expressed interest in working with him. When asked which Tamil actor he would choose to pair with the action star, Jason replied without hesitation, "My dad . It will prove to be a great collaboration between the two." He then jokingly said that his answer would likely lead to memes and jokes on social media.

Jason also opened up on his decision to pursue filmmaking instead of acting, despite being the son of Thalapathy Vijay. He explained that frequent visits to film sets during his childhood sparked his fascination with filmmaking rather than performing in front of the camera. "Since childhood, I had access to sets. That was my privilege. I had good exposure. I started to feel comfortable there. I normalised going to sets as part of my life. So, the interest sparked from there," he said.

Jason revealed that cinema was not always his first career ambition. "At first, I wanted to become a pilot. In between, I was also interested in becoming a cricketer. It was during Class 11 and 12 that I started showing an interest in cinema. In college, I wanted to pursue filmmaking," he shared.

He said that storytelling had always come naturally to him and eventually led him towards directing. While studying filmmaking in Canada, he had hands-on experience by creating advertisements for startup companies, which helped build his confidence behind the camera. Jason also volunteered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he watched films from around the world and broadened his understanding of cinema. He recalled meeting Malayalam actor  during a screening of Moothon, describing it as a memorable experience that further increased his passion for filmmaking.
