The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned in its latest weather bulletin that on Saturday, August 1st, 2026, more than 20 states across the country will experience torrential rain, severe thunderstorms, and lightning. According to the Meteorological Department, a deep depression over western Vidarbha and adjoining southern Madhya Pradesh has moved west-northwestward at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour. During the next 24 hours, this system will pass through western Madhya Pradesh and adjoining central Maharashtra and weaken and transform into a well-marked low pressure area. Due to the impact of this powerful weather system, a period of widespread torrential rains has started across the country, which is likely to affect the normal life of the people.

According to the latest IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places across the state on August 1st, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in some areas. Given the severity of the situation, the administration has been put on high alert and has advised to take special precautions in low-lying areas and coastal areas, as coastal winds can be extremely dangerous. There is a possibility of lightning strike, the Meteorological Department has advised to stay safe.

Amidst this period of heavy rain and storm, the risk of lightning has also increased significantly. The Meteorological Centre has warned that there is a possibility of severe lightning along with thunder and lightning at different places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat state and Vidarbha. Strong surface winds may increase the problems of people in the coastal and plain areas of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep and Telangana. The Meteorological Department has appealed to the general public to stay in safe places during bad weather, not to take shelter under trees and completely avoid going on waterlogged roads so that any untoward incident can be avoided.
