“It’s an unbelievable feeling, and I am still pinching myself. There can’t be a bigger honour than representing India,” says Bhoomi Trivedi , who will be performing at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) closing ceremony at Glasgow on Sunday. She adds, “August is my birthday month, and I couldn’t have started it on a better note. I will be performing a few folk songs and also joining fellow artistes for a patriotic medley. I am a proud Gujarati , and I have written something in my mother tongue, which I will perform there. It’s a tribute to our soldiers. So, this feels like a double celebration.” Excerpts from a quick chat:

‘I have designed my own outfit for the event’

It will be a huge honour to share the stage with Shankar Mahadevan and other artistes. It’s going to be one of the most important days of my life, and my family and friends are super excited too. Considering it’s going to be my first CWG performance, I want to make it memorable. I have designed my own outfit for the event. While every show is important, this one is extra special because I will be representing my state and country on a global stage. It’s a huge responsibility and I look forward to it. It’s also the handover ceremony, and I feel proud that Ahmedabad will be hosting the next edition of the CWG in 2030.

‘Grateful to God for this opportunity’

As an artiste, this is one of the rarest opportunities you can get. After all, performing at the Commonwealth Games is no common feat. I feel grateful to God. This news is proof that God always has something better planned for you. I was supposed to tour another country for a pre-Navratri concert and perform there this Sunday. I’ve been visiting that country for the past seven or eight years, but this time, things didn’t work out. I was naturally disappointed, but this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has me as excited as a child. Performing here will be my way of cheering on and celebrating all the athletes who took part in the CWG.
