Korean singer AOORA returns with Tip Tip, a monsoon-themed track that blends retro Bollywood charm with Hollywood swing. “When I first came to India, I thought rain is just... rain. But then I realised rain has a completely different meaning here. The moment it starts raining, everything changes. Some people run and dance, some stop for chai, some remember their first love, some just smile looking outside the window,” he says.
Before writing the song, AOORA spoke to people on the streets about their favourite monsoon memories. “I wanted to know what rain means to different people. So, I met people on the streets and asked them about their rain memories. Everyone had a different story, but all of them had the same emotion... happiness. That’s when I felt rain is actually one of the sounds of India. It doesn't just fall from the sky... it connects people,” he says.
Tip Tip combines the warmth of classic Bollywood melodies with vintage swing and jazz. “I love music that makes people smile. When I was listening to old Bollywood songs, I felt they had this beautiful innocence and charm. At the same time, I also love vintage jazz and swing because it makes you want to move even if you don't know how to dance,” he says.
The music video’s umbrellas, hats and monochrome visuals evoke the Raj Kapoor era, though AOORA says the team wasn’t recreating any particular film or star. “While preparing for the song, I watched several vintage songs and visual references, especially songs like Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si, and I loved their innocence, humour and simple romance. We also took inspiration from the joyful rain imagery and movement of Singin’ in the Rain. The hat, umbrella, black-and-white streets and playful performance came from this combination of classic Bollywood charm and Hollywood musical energy. We were not trying to recreate any one actor or film,” he says.
