Oxford Bookstore Art Book Prize announces its 2026 shortlist

Instituted in 2022, the Oxford Bookstore Art Book Prize is a collaboration between Oxford Bookstores and the Visual Arts Gallery, celebrating the best in art publications published in the English language. The Prize is an open invitation for publishers, academics who research art and culture, collectives and independent artists based in India who are involved from the conceptualisation stage through the production stage of various forms of art publications.

The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.

These are the five titles nominated for this year’s prize

  • From the Depth of the Mould, Meera Mukherjee (1923-1998), A Centenary Tribute, edited by Tapati Guha-Thakurta, Jadavpur University Press

  • The Big Book of Indian Art: An Illustrated History of Indian Art from Its Origins to the Present Day, Bina Sarkar Ellias, Aleph Book Company

  • Kalakari: A Journey Through Indian Folk Art, Simran Tapadia, Pan Macmillan India

  • Zoraver and the Lost Gods, Abeer Kapoor, illustrated by Ujan Dutta, Bloomsbury India

  • Histories in the Making: Photographing Indian Monuments 1855-1920, edited by Sudeshna Guha, DAG
