As the rainy season sets in, cool breezes and lush greenery captivate everyone. However, this season also brings certain issues. The impact of humidity is particularly noticeable on electronic appliances. During the monsoon, many people complain about water accumulating inside their refrigerators—sometimes the vegetable tray fills with water, or droplets appear on the back wall of the fridge.
If you are facing this issue, there is no need to panic. Often, the cause is simply an incorrect setting that can be fixed with a minor adjustment.
Why does water accumulate inside the fridge during the monsoon?
Humidity levels in the air rise significantly during the rainy season. When you frequently open the fridge door, humid outside air enters the unit. Upon coming into contact with the cold interior surfaces, this moisture turns into water droplets. Gradually, this water begins to accumulate inside the fridge.
First, adjust the fridge temperature.
If water is accumulating inside your fridge during the monsoon, the first step is to check the temperature setting.
There is no need to keep the fridge excessively cold during the rainy season.
It is considered ideal to maintain the fridge temperature between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius.
If your fridge has a numbered control knob, set it to 3 or 4.
Keeping the temperature too low leads to increased condensation inside, which can aggravate the problem of water accumulation.
Avoid opening the fridge door frequently.
Every time the fridge door is opened, outside humidity enters the unit. Therefore, try to open the fridge only when necessary and close it immediately after you are done.
Check the door gasket.
Inspect the rubber seal (door gasket) on the fridge door. If it is loose or damaged, outside air will continuously seep in. This increases internal humidity and leads to water accumulation. If the rubber seal is not sealing properly, it should be replaced. Cleaning the drain hole is also essential.
If the drain hole inside the fridge gets clogged, water cannot drain out and begins to accumulate at the bottom. Therefore, it is important to clean it periodically.
Do not overfill the fridge.
If the fridge is packed full, cold air cannot circulate properly. This causes excess moisture to build up in certain areas. Arrange items in a way that allows air to circulate easily throughout the fridge.
Do not place hot food directly into the fridge
Many people place hot food straight into the fridge. This creates steam, which later condenses into water droplets. Therefore, always let food cool down to room temperature before placing it in the fridge.
When should you call a technician?
If water continues to accumulate in the fridge even after setting the correct temperature, cleaning the drain hole, and checking the door gasket, it could indicate a problem with the cooling system, a sensor, or another technical fault. In such a situation, be sure to have the fridge inspected by an authorized service center or an experienced technician.
