Tottenham supporters are eager to find out the identity of the mystery target closing in on a move to the club after Roberto De Zerbi said this week that Spurs were close to landing a “bomba” new signing.

The unnamed player is expected to be one of another two or three additions at Tottenham, with De Zerbi stressing that only 60 per cent of the club’s transfer business has been completed so far.

Even after spending a club-record £237million and bringing in six new players already this summer, the Tottenham head coach is still keen to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window shuts.

Eli Junior Kroupi’s foot injury, which needed surgery and is expected to keep him out for up to four months, has brought Spurs’ move for the 20-year-old Bournemouth striker to an end.

Having missed out on one of their main targets, Tottenham’s focus has quickly shifted elsewhere, and here are five players Spurs could now consider in their search for more firepower in attack.

Deniz Undav has become a hugely underrated yet highly effective forward since leaving Brighton for Stuttgart.

Undav showed flashes of quality during his time at Brighton, most notably with a clever lob away at Arsenal in 2023, but it was only after departing the Premier League that he truly began to flourish.

Back in his home country, Undav has made a major impact in the Bundesliga, scoring 19 league goals last season at a rate of 0.76 goals per 90 minutes.

That placed him seventh for total goals and sixth for goals per 90 among strikers across Europe’s top five leagues.

He then carried that form into the World Cup, where he played the role of Germany’s super-sub and produced three goals and two assists in only 69 minutes during the group stage.

Sharp technically and comfortable dropping into deeper areas, Undav would suit De Zerbi, who prefers strikers capable of linking play while wide players burst beyond them to finish moves.

At 30, Undav’s age could be a concern, but De Zerbi has already shown that he values proven quality over untapped potential.

Another player who impressed greatly at the World Cup was Sunderland and Netherlands striker Brian Brobbey.

After an outstanding debut Premier League season, Brobbey became the focal point of a Netherlands attack that had looked capable of going much further before their run ended with a penalty shootout defeat to Morocco in the last 16.

Brobbey scored three goals as the Netherlands finished top of their group, blending excellent hold-up play with a sharp instinct for tracking the ball and attacking the penalty area.

Spurs know very well the kind of problems Brobbey’s physical presence can create for defenders, having seen him score in a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January.

In De Zerbi’s first match as Tottenham manager, a 1-0 loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, the Italian witnessed first-hand how Brobbey can overpower even seasoned defenders.

The relentless edge to Brobbey’s game also appears well suited to the aggressive pressing style De Zerbi wants Tottenham to adopt.

Unlike Undav and Brobbey, Tottenham are already believed to have an interest in Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush.

The Egypt international made an immediate impact after joining the Premier League from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, but he has since struggled to reproduce that early momentum.

Marmoush scored only three league goals in his first full season at City last term and is now reportedly viewed as surplus to requirements.

A flexible attacker who can either drop deep or threaten in behind, Marmoush has several qualities De Zerbi would admire if he is willing to help the forward regain his confidence in front of goal.

Although last season was a difficult one, Marmoush has already shown he can score regularly in the Premier League and, at 27, he is nearing the age profile De Zerbi wants as he looks for immediate success after two years of relegation battles.

There is also Savinho, a long-term Spurs target, who is understood to be more likely an addition alongside De Zerbi’s mystery “bomba” signing rather than the answer to it.

The Brazilian winger has the pace and direct running De Zerbi wants from his wide attackers, and he is said to be open to a move to north London.

There would still be work to do on improving his end product — the 22-year-old scored only one league goal last season — but the raw qualities that shape his game make him a natural fit for De Zerbi’s football.

Savinho regularly finds the right spaces but currently lacks polish in the final third. It would fall to De Zerbi to refine that part of his game, though it is the sort of challenge he would almost certainly enjoy.

If Spurs were somehow to complete a stunning double move for both Savinho and Marmoush, expectations of a top-six finish would undoubtedly grow.

De Zerbi tried to explain what he meant by a “bomba” signing in Friday’s press conference before the Chelsea match, saying it referred to a player with top-level ability.

Very few players in Europe match that description better than Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who wants to leave the French capital in search of more playing time.

Such a transfer would be extraordinary and far beyond what most supporters would realistically expect, and there is no suggestion at present that Spurs are in a position to pull off a deal of that scale.

Yet if Tottenham were somehow to achieve the improbable, the rest of the Premier League would be forced to take serious notice.

Barcola appears likely to become an unfortunate consequence of a Paris Saint-Germain squad loaded with attacking talent, but that should not diminish his quality.

A two-time Champions League winner and a major Liverpool transfer target this summer, Barcola would represent a statement signing of the highest order for Tottenham.
