On Saturday, Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, organized a national townhall event outside the Constitution Club to protest against the implementation of the E20 policy in India. During discussions with reporters, Kejriwal raised concerns about contradictions in statements from the central ministry regarding the petrol-blended ethanol policy, asserting that no comprehensive study has been conducted on the matter. He further claimed that the E20 policy is being imposed on the public without proper justification.
Kejriwal also questioned the BJP government's motives behind the E20 policy, alleging that vehicles are suffering damage and experiencing reduced mileage due to the ethanol-blended petrol. He pointed out the inconsistency in government statements, where one ministry claims a 2 to 5 percent difference, while another states it is 4 percent. He emphasized that no studies have been undertaken, and the policy is being forced upon the populace. 'Why is the government imposing this on people? What is their interest in E20 petrol? It is not beneficial,' he stated.
Alongside Kejriwal, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj also voiced opposition to the E20 policy. He stressed that consumers should have the option to choose between pure petrol and ethanol-blended fuel. Speaking to reporters, Bhardwaj mentioned that the townhall meeting led by Kejriwal aims to unite residents of Delhi and neighboring states to express their concerns regarding this policy.
Bhardwaj informed that several petitions have been filed to ensure the availability of pure petrol. He noted that many people are reporting decreased mileage and damage to their vehicles' fuel systems due to the ethanol-blended petrol. If E20 petrol is to be introduced, customers should have the choice at petrol stations to select either pure petrol or ethanol-mixed fuel. The townhall meeting, led by Arvind Kejriwal, will bring together individuals from Delhi and surrounding areas to voice their concerns.
