A case has been reported in the Jaripatka police station area of ​​Nagpur, where a High Court lawyer was extorted for ₹2 lakh, assaulted after entering his office, and threatened with death. The incident is believed to be to a criminal dispute stemming from an old love affair. Police have registered a case against two accused under serious sections and initiated an investigation.

According to police, Jaswant Khemchand Khubnani (32), a resident of Jaripatka near Mahatma Gandhi School and a High Court lawyer, filed the complaint. The complaint states that in February 2025, a woman filed a case against Roshan Qayyum Shaikh (40), a resident of Friends Colony, Gittikhana, for raping her on the pretext of marriage. Roshan was also jailed in that case.

The complainant alleges that due to this same grudge, Roshan abused, assaulted, and threatened him on July 8th and 15th. At that time, a police complaint was not filed after the accused’s family apologized.

According to the complaint, on the night of July 29th, Advocate Khubnani was in the office with his friend Faizan Farooq Shaikh. Roshan arrived with his colleague Nilesh Gadekar and demanded two lakh rupees, citing the woman’s case expenses. When he refused, the two men abused him, threatened to kill him, and Nilesh Gadekar allegedly assaulted the complainant. Furthermore, after the incident, Roshan made a WhatsApp call, repeating his demand for two lakh rupees and threatening dire consequences.

Jaripatka police have registered a case against the two accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for extortion, extortion, assault, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy. Police have also initiated preventive action against the accused and the investigation is ongoing.
