Shubhangi Atre Gets Candid About Her Divorce From Husband Piyush Poorey, ‘Not A Healthy Marriage..’

Shubhangi Atre, popularly known for her role as 'Angoori Bhabhi' in the popular show, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, is making headlines for her turbulent personal life. The TV actress went through a lot in her personal life, and her marriage to Piyush Poorey lasted for 22 years. Earlier, in many interviews, Shubhangi shared that it was Piyush’s alcohol addiction that led to their divorce. In a recent conversation, Shubhangi Atre got candid about her separation from Piyush.
In a recent conversation with Hauterrfly, Shubhangi opened up about s alcoholism. Reflecting on the early years of marriage, Shubhangi shared that she was not aware of the intensity of Piyush’s alcoholism. She mentioned that her ex-husband was good at hiding that he came home drunk. Eventually, the addiction took a toll on his body. Shubhangi clarified that although he became a little cranky, he was never abusive towards her. At the time, Shubhangi realised that she was not in a healthy marriage. In her words:
"I wasn’t aware of the intensity of his alcoholism. But I knew very well that he liked to drink. At parties, even I would drink. But when the intensity of his alcoholism increased, I didn’t understand it. I wouldn’t realise when he was drunk. He was good at hiding it. I would assume that he was tired or sleepy. But eventually, the addiction took a toll on his body. He had become a little cranky, but he was never abusive towards me. However, I realised that this was not a healthy marriage to be in."

During the same conversation, Shubhangi shared that eventually in her marriage to Piyush, all the financial responsibility fell on her. She mentioned that her divorce from Piyush was amicable. The Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain actress highlighted that it took her two years to come to terms with her separation. Shubhangi added that she didn’t want to break her marriage and wanted her daughter to have her father under the same roof. In her words:
