The Indian athletes continued their impressive performance on the 10th day of the Commonwealth Games 2026. India won its third gold medal in shot put in Para-athletics after boxing. Two Indian athletes won medals in the men’s shot put F57 category in Para-athletics. Soman Rana won the gold medal, while Shubham Juyal had to settle for the silver medal. With this, India has won a total of 30 medals, including eight gold medals, in the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Two star Indian athletes achieved a double success in the men’s shot put F57 event of Para Athletics, winning both the gold and silver medals. Soman Rana cleared 13.38m in his first attempt to take the top spot. He then improved his performance in his second attempt to clear 13.40m to win the gold medal. Shubham Juyal did not have a good start, but he did not give up. In his sixth and final attempt, he cleared 13.28m to win the silver medal. Cedric Idris Lekezo Azamji of Cameroon, who finished third, reached 12.57m.

Soman, who served in the Indian Army, was a former boxer, but took up para-athletics after a landmine accident in 2006. After winning a bronze medal at the World Championships and a silver medal at the Asian Games, he has now brought glory to the country by winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Soman becomes first Indian to win gold medal

Soman has become the first Indian to win a gold medal in the F57 event. This is the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Games that India has won two medals in the F57 event at the same time. This is the fourth time that two Indians have won medals in the same event. Earlier, two Indian athletes have won medals at the same time in the women’s shot put F57 (Sharmila Dhaka – gold, Shilpa Shaila – bronze), men’s 100m T47 race (Dilip Gavit – gold, Mohammed Basil – silver), men’s javelin throw (Neeraj Chopra – silver, Yashvir Singh – bronze) and men’s triple jump (Praveen Chitravel – silver, Selva Prabhu – bronze).

India won a total of 30 medals.

So far, India has won a total of 30 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, including 8 gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze medals. Indian athletes achieved this feat without participating in the sports of shooting, wrestling and hockey.
