Seventeen-year-old Tanvi Sharma has made headlines by securing her first BWF World Tour title, triumphing over Vietnam's sixth-seeded Thuy Linh Nguyen in straight sets at the Taipei Open Super 300 badminton tournament on Sunday.

In a commanding performance, Tanvi defeated Nguyen with scores of 21-16, 21-16, completing the match in just 36 minutes, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning career.

Tanvi, who was the runner-up at the previous year's US Open Super 300, showcased her talent with a steady performance against the seasoned Vietnamese player. Under the guidance of coach Park Tae-sang, who has previously trained Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, Tanvi is recognized as one of India's most promising badminton talents, celebrated for her aggressive play and reliability on the court.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) took to social media to commend Tanvi's remarkable victory. They stated, "17 YEARS OLD. RECORD-BREAKER. CHAMPION. Tanvi Sharma wins the Taipei Open 2026 to become the youngest champion in tournament history and only the fourth Indian woman to claim a Super 300+ title."

Prior to her victory, Tanvi advanced to the women's singles final by defeating fifth seed Huang Yu-Hsun from Chinese Taipei with scores of 21-17, 21-11 in the semifinals on Saturday.

At the age of 17 years and 222 days, she also set a record as the youngest finalist in the history of the Taipei Open, surpassing the previous record held by Korean doubles player Lee Yong Dae, who was 17 years and 287 days old when he reached the men's doubles final in 2006.
