On Sunday, Olympic medalist and renowned Indian badminton player PV Sindhu extended her congratulations to 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma, who achieved her first BWF World Tour title at the Taipei Open Super 300 tournament.

In the women's singles final, Tanvi triumphed over Vietnam's sixth-seeded Thuy Linh Nguyen with a score of 21-16, 21-16, marking a significant milestone in her budding career.

Sindhu expressed her admiration for Tanvi's remarkable talent, aggressive playing style, and confidence in facing top competitors. She emphasized that the young athlete has a promising future ahead. "I couldn't be prouder of this girl. For years, I've believed that Tanvi possesses all the qualities to become an extraordinary player. Her talent, shot-making ability, and bravery to challenge the best are evident," Sindhu shared on X.

The seasoned shuttler noted that Tanvi's stability and experience have grown significantly, expressing joy in witnessing her progress. Keep pushing, keep believing, and stay hungry," she advised.

Sindhu also highlighted that Tanvi's victory is a promising indicator for the future of Indian badminton, stating, "Indian badminton has a very bright future ahead with players like you. So proud of you."

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) celebrated Tanvi's accomplishment in a post on X, stating, "17 YEARS OLD. RECORD-BREAKER. CHAMPION. Tanvi Sharma wins the Taipei Open 2026 to become the youngest champion in tournament history and only the fourth Indian Women's Singles player to secure a Super 300+ title."

At just 17 years and 222 days, Tanvi also made history as the youngest finalist in the Taipei Open, surpassing Korean doubles legend Lee Yong Dae, who was 17 years and 287 days old when he reached the men's doubles final in 2006.
