Independent short films often rely on compelling storytelling rather than big budgets to make an impression. Mind Game , an Indian short exploring themes of mystery, suspense and social issues, is one such film that has been steadily gaining visibility at international film festivals.

The film has travelled to several global platforms, earning recognition across categories including Best Social Short Film, Best Indie Short Film, Best Indian Short Film, Best Script, Best Producer, Best Art Direction and Best Actor. It has also received honours in the mystery, suspense and thriller category, reflecting its appeal across different genres.

Written, directed and produced by filmmaker and spiritual guru Omguru , Mind Game marks his on-screen acting debut. He also served as the film's art director, taking on multiple creative responsibilities in bringing the project to life.

According to Omguru, Mind Game is part of a larger creative vision. In an earlier interview, he said he intends to write 100 films and play the lead role in each of them. He describes filmmaking as a medium to inspire audiences while telling stories that blend entertainment with meaningful themes.

One aspect of the film's journey that stands out is the story behind its creator. Omguru, who has an 80 per cent physical disability, says he has never viewed it as a limitation. Instead, he believes physical challenges can become a source of strength when paired with confidence and opportunity. "Disability is not a weakness," he has said, adding that many people with disabilities possess untapped potential that deserves recognition.

Born in Ahmedabad into a Jain family, Omguru's artistic interests date back several decades. After completing a commerce degree and clearing the UPSC preliminary examination, he trained in theatre for two years under noted Gujarati theatre personality Hasmukh Baradi in 1994. The experience, he says, laid the foundation for his transition into filmmaking.

The film has been showcased at festivals including the Five Continents International Film Festival, AltFF Alternative Film Festival, The Buddha International Film Festival, Sweden Film Awards, Reels International Film Festival, Sittannavasal International Film Festival, iDEAL International Film Festival and the Absurd Film Festival, helping it reach audiences beyond India.

While Mind Game continues its festival run, Omguru has already completed another short film, Paakit (Wallet), which he has also written, directed, produced and acted in. Like its predecessor, the film is expected to make the rounds at international film festivals.

Beyond filmmaking, Omguru is also the founder of the Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF), which is preparing for its 17th edition and has received thousands of submissions from filmmakers worldwide. His involvement with both filmmaking and film festivals reflects a broader commitment to independent cinema.

For Mind Game, however, the recognition lies not only in the number of festival selections and awards but also in its journey as an independent production that has found a place on the international festival circuit. The film demonstrates how a focused creative vision and a willingness to take on multiple roles behind and in front of the camera can help an independent project reach audiences across borders.
