New Delhi: A section of candidates boycotted the Civil Police Constable recruitment examination in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district on Saturday, alleging irregularities in the distribution of question papers and OMR answer sheets at an examination centre.

The incident occurred at the Sharadamba Educational Institution examination centre in Tikota town, where candidates claimed there was a delay in distributing the question papers and OMR sheets. They also alleged that the serial numbers on the question papers and OMR sheets did not match, leading to confusion during the examination.

Several candidates walked out of the examination hall carrying their question papers and OMR sheets, staged a protest outside the campus and demanded clarification, resulting in temporary disruption at the centre.

Responding to the incident, Vijayapura Deputy Commissioner Anand K. said the question papers and OMR sheets had reached the examination centre on time and were opened in the presence of candidates as per the prescribed procedure.

He clarified that there is no rule requiring the serial numbers on the question paper and OMR sheet to be identical. According to him, candidates only needed to enter the question paper version code on the OMR sheet before beginning the examination. He further explained that the question papers and OMR sheets are not tagged or bound together.

The Deputy Commissioner said candidates who left the examination hall despite being advised by the centre authorities could not be allowed to re-enter, as examination rules prohibit candidates from leaving and returning after exiting the hall.

Despite the confusion, more than 115 candidates completed the examination peacefully at the centre. Anand K. said the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras and a detailed report would be submitted to the recruitment board for further action.
