Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 3: Athletes supported by the Reliance Foundation made a remarkable impact at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing a total of three medals—two silver and one bronze.

The significance of these medals is underscored by their historic context. Sreeshankar Murali, Lovlina Borgohain, and Tejaswin Shankar were the standout performers, each achieving podium finishes, as highlighted in a recent press release.

Sreeshankar repeated his silver medal achievement from the last Commonwealth Games, marking a triumphant return after missing the Paris Olympics due to a severe knee injury. He has now made history as the only Indian to win multiple long jump medals at the Commonwealth Games, maintaining an impressive streak of jumps exceeding 8 meters in all competitions this year.

Borgohain added another silver to her impressive collection, becoming only the third Indian boxer to medal at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games, following in the footsteps of legends Mary Kom and Vijender Singh. She narrowly lost in a fiercely contested final against Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree.

Tejaswin solidified his status as one of India's premier athletes by clinching a bronze in the decathlon, marking India's first medal in this event. He is also the first Indian to earn medals in multiple disciplines at the Commonwealth Games, having previously won a high jump medal in Birmingham. His determination was evident as he competed with his knee taped after withdrawing from the high jump event following an unsuccessful attempt.

Other notable performances from Reliance Foundation-supported athletes included Aadarsh Ram and Lokesh Sathyanathan, who both finished fifth in the men's high jump and long jump, respectively. Additionally, Tejas Shirse and Yashas Palaksha secured eighth place in the finals of the men's 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles.

Animesh Kujur also showcased his talent by reaching the semifinals of the men's 200m event, where he triumphed over Emmanuel Eseme, the 100m champion from Cameroon, in his heat.

With many of these athletes set to compete at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya later this year, their performances in Glasgow will undoubtedly boost their confidence and provide valuable insights for the upcoming multi-sport event.
