One should avoid such a friend who is a poisonous pot with a milky mouth.”

The gist of this policy is that it’s best to distance yourself from someone who speaks sweetly to you but harms you behind your back. Chanakya compared such a person to a vessel that appears to contain milk on the surface, but is filled with poison inside. In today’s terms, one shouldn’t become close to someone based solely on sweet words and praise. It’s also important to understand their behavior and true attitude toward you.

Don’t trust every friend blindly.

Chanakya Niti also talks about being cautious about trust.

“One should not trust a bad friend nor should one trust a friend.

Sometimes an angry friend should reveal all his secrets.”

This means that you shouldn’t trust a bad friend and should avoid revealing all your secrets even to a close friend… because relationships don’t always have to be the same.
