New Delhi, August 2. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup cricket tournament. Powerful opener Smriti Mandhana will be the vice-captain of the team.
India has not made many changes to its squad. Prema Rawat has retained her place, along with Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Bharati Fulmali, Richa Ghosh, and several other star players.
Injured Shreyanka Patil not part of the team
However, Shreyanka Patil is not part of the team as she has not yet recovered from an ankle ligament injury, which forced her to withdraw from the T20 World Cup midway through. It is reported that Patil will return to the team for the Asian Games, and it will be interesting to see how the Indian team performs in the tournament.
Tournament schedule not yet announced
Interestingly, the schedule for the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 has not yet been announced. The tournament is expected to run from late August to mid-September. The Asian Games are scheduled to be held from September 17th to 22nd, immediately following the conclusion of the Asia Cup.
According to an official BCCI statement, the detailed schedule and match dates of the tournament will be announced by the ACC soon. A total of eight teams are expected to participate in the competition this year, making the competition highly exciting.
India has won the trophy a record seven times so far.
India has a distinguished history in the Women’s Asia Cup, having won the trophy a record seven times. However, in the final of the last season, played in 2024, India suffered an upset at the hands of Sri Lanka.
