British company Lion Brewery returns to India after 60 years

Lion Brewery: Renowned British brewer Lion Brewery Company has returned to India after more than 60 years. Lion Brewery Company has launched its premium beer portfolio in the capital, Delhi. The company has made this move in response to the country’s rapidly growing premium beer market. Lion Brewery has entered into an exclusive partnership with Copperdrop Spirits for import and distribution in India. 

Lion Brewery is planning to enter Haryana and Uttar Pradesh
in the next phase of expanding its business in India. Lion Brewery was established in London in the year 1836. The company said that it has a historical connection with India. It was one of the first companies to produce a beer style called IPA and export it to India during the British period. 

India is an important part of the company’s story.
Will Julius, Managing Director of Lion Brewery, said that India is not just a new market for them, but an important part of the company’s story. He said that it is very exciting to return to India amid the rapid growth of the premium beer segment. The company has currently launched Island Lager and Pale Ale in 330 ml bottles in India, which are currently available in Delhi. 

India’s premium beer segment is growing at over 40% annually.
According to the company, it is entering India at a time when the premium beer segment is growing rapidly, clocking over 40% annual growth. Rising disposable income in cities, a growing preference for light and craft beers, and the rapid expansion of micro-breweries are driving the shift towards premium products.

The beer market is expected to grow at 8 to 10 percent annually until 2028.
The demand for premium products in India’s beer market is steadily increasing. The total beer market was estimated to be worth $4.5 billion in 2023. Citing data from the IMARC Group, it has been said that India’s beer market is expected to grow at 8 to 10 percent annually until 2028. It has been said that the premium market is growing faster.
