With the arrival of Sawan, the monsoon has become active in various parts of India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to heavy rain is expected in North India, Central India, Northeast and West Coast regions on August 3, 2026. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely at many places in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand. Good rain is also expected in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Northeast states. The Meteorological Department has warned of strong winds in some areas and landslides in hilly areas.

Rain brings relief to Delhi-NCR

According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Greater Noida will experience cloudy skies on Monday, with light to moderate rain expected throughout the day. Thunderstorms and heavy showers are also possible at some locations. The maximum temperature is expected to be between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to be between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius. The rain will reduce humidity and provide relief to residents.

Alert in Haryana and Punjab

The monsoon will remain active in most districts of Haryana and Punjab. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in cities like Chandigarh, Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Hisar, Gurugram, Rohtak, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Patiala. Strong winds and lightning are possible at some locations. The rain will bring down temperatures, which is expected to benefit farmers growing Kharif crops.

Heavy rain and landslide threat in Himachal Pradesh

Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast for several districts in Himachal Pradesh on August 3. Heavy rain is expected in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Chamba, Solan, Sirmaur, and Kinnaur, leading to landslides, flash floods, and road disruptions. Tourists and locals traveling to hilly areas are advised to follow the weather department’s advisories and avoid unnecessary travel.

Chances of rain in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh

Light to moderate rain is expected in Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur, and several parts of the Kashmir Valley. Landslides are likely in high altitude areas. The weather in Ladakh is expected to remain normal, with some areas experiencing light rain or thundershowers.

Chances of rain in Uttarakhand, UP, MP and Rajasthan

Heavy rain is likely in Dehradun, Nainital, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. Pilgrims have been advised to exercise special caution on the Chardham Yatra routes. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in several districts of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra and Bareilly. Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur and Alwar in eastern Rajasthan may receive good rainfall, while the weather will remain relatively dry in western Rajasthan. Moderate to heavy rain is likely in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Gwalior and Sagar divisions of Madhya Pradesh. Monsoon will also remain active in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon and Bastar regions of Chhattisgarh.

Situation in Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa

Light to moderate rain is expected in most parts of Bihar. Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is possible in Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Purnia, and Muzaffarpur. Rainfall is also expected in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. Several coastal and interior districts of Odisha may experience good rainfall. Regarding the weather in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa, moderate to heavy rain is expected in the Konkan region, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. Southern parts of Gujarat may experience light to moderate rain, while Saurashtra and Kutch may experience scattered rainfall. Goa may also experience intermittent rain throughout the day.

Monsoon will remain active in South India and Northeast as well

Moderate to heavy rain is expected at many places in Kerala and coastal Karnataka. Light to moderate rain may occur in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon activity will remain normal in most parts of South India. Talking about Northeast India, light to heavy rain may occur at many places in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim. Due to heavy rain in some areas, waterlogging and local flooding like situation is also feared.
