New Delhi: Sawan fasting often means planning meals carefully so devotees can follow their vrat without relying on the same few dishes every day. A homemade sweet can bring some variety to the fasting menu, especially when long hours without regular meals leave you looking for something filling. Dry fruit ladoos are one such option that can be prepared in advance and enjoyed in small portions during the holy month. They also work well as a festive offering at home or as a quick bite between prayers and other routines.

Unlike many sweets prepared with flour, this version fits fasting menus that avoid cereal-based ingredients. The recipe is simple enough for home cooks and does not require elaborate preparation. As the holy month of sawan or shravan began on July 30, here is an easy way to make dry fruit ladoos that can add variety and convenience to your vrat menu at home.

Dry fruit ladoo recipe Ingredients
  • ¼ cup chopped almonds
  • ¼ cup chopped cashews
  • ¼ chopped pistachios
  • ¼ cup grated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
Preparation method
  • Heat a pan and roast the chopped almonds, cashews and pistachios over a medium flame until they turn lightly golden. Remove them from the pan and allow them to cool.
  • Add ghee to the same pan and roast the grated coconut until it becomes lightly golden and aromatic.
  • Transfer the roasted dry fruits and coconut to a grinder. Add ground cardamom and pulse the mixture until it becomes coarse. Do not grind it into a fine powder.
  • Let the mixture cool slightly. Grease your palms with a little ghee and take a small portion of the mixture.
  • Press and roll the portion between your palms to shape it into a round ladoos. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
  • Finish each ladoo with a whole nut on top and serve.
  • These dry fruit ladoos are a simple homemade sweet that can be prepared during Sawan fasting.
