In the early hours of August 3, a fire erupted in two coaches of the Samastipur-Saharsa MEMU train at the Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station in Saharsa district, Bihar. Officials confirmed that there were no casualties resulting from the incident. According to the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railway, Saraswati Chandra, the train (number 63344) arrived at the station around 3 AM.
During this time, the station master reported a fire in the motor coach of the train. The flames quickly spread to two coaches. Fire extinguishers were unable to control the blaze, prompting the immediate dispatch of fire engines to the scene.
All passengers were safely evacuated from the train, and the power supply to the overhead electric lines was cut off. The CPRO stated that the fire was completely extinguished by approximately 5:50 AM. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities among the passengers.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
