Union Minister and senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal said on Sunday that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is worried about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s growing popularity among the youth. He said that Rahul Gandhi previously considered himself a “youth leader,” but now he is not as popular among them as he once was.

Piyush Goyal claimed that the BJP is receiving continued support from young voters. He said, “Generation Z has always been with us.” Goyal said that Prime Minister Modi’s vision of making India a developed country will continue to receive continued support from the youth. He also called Prime Minister Modi the “most popular leader” in the world.

Goyal said that his interaction with the youth and his active presence on social media platforms will help accelerate the country’s development. Speaking to reporters, he said, “Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi is worried about Prime Minister Modi’s growing popularity and his closeness to the youth.” He further said, “Rahul Gandhi considered himself a youth leader. Now it has been proven that he is not as popular as Prime Minister Modi.”

Responding to questions about the youth protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and the subsequent demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goyal supported the steps taken by the central government in the paper leak case. He stated that a strict law has been enacted under the leadership of the Modi government to prevent paper leaks. According to Goyal, the NDA government introduced this law in 2024 and later strengthened it through amendments.

The law provides for strict punishment and fast-track courts have been established to expedite the trial of such cases. He also alleged that several opposition parties, including the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Aam Aadmi Party, opposed this law in Parliament.

Goyal said, “I can understand their disappointment and frustration because voters are rejecting them again and again. They are losing elections again and again. They should have supported this bill when it was being discussed.” He added, “I condemn the opposition to this bill by the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party, and other parties.” The Public Examination (Prohibition of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, was passed by both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha last week.
