Kia has not yet announced the launch date, price, variants or India-specific technical details.

What does the Kia Sorento teaser reveal?

The teaser keeps most of the SUV hidden, but its shape is easy to read. The Sorento gets a tall roof, an upright front, a wide body and a strong shoulder line. It looks more like a traditional family SUV than a raised crossover.

A sharp lighting strip appears near the bonnet, with another lighting unit placed lower in the bumper. This points to a split-headlamp design for the India-spec SUV.

The Sorento sold overseas is around 4,815 mm long and has three rows of seats. This should place it above the Seltos in Kia’s Indian range and below the larger, fully electric EV9 in pricing and positioning.

Hybrid engine expected

Kia has only confirmed that the Sorento will arrive as a hybrid. Specifications for India remain under wraps.

In overseas markets, the Sorento Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic gearbox. Depending on the market, buyers can get front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Singapore-spec model produces 212 bhp and 366 Nm, though the Indian version could receive a different tune.

Global versions feature three-row seating, twin 12.3-inch screens, connected-car functions, a Bose sound system and driver-assistance features. Kia has not confirmed which of these will reach India.

Where will it sit in India?

The Sorento is likely to compete with premium three-row SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron. Its hybrid system could become a key selling point, especially for buyers who want better city fuel economy from a large SUV.

Kia says the Sorento nameplate has crossed 48 lakh sales across 132 countries since its debut in 2002. India prices and delivery timelines are expected closer to the formal launch.
