Special judge in Delhi fast-track court for paper leak cases transferred

A judicial officer appointed as the special judge of a fast-track court to hear paper leak cases was transferred on Saturday as part of a reshuffle in the Delhi Higher Judicial Service.

The transfer came just nine days after the Delhi High Court designated Judge Anu Grover Baliga to head the special fast-track court at the Rouse Avenue Court Complex to try offences under the 2024 Public Examinations Prevention of Unfair Means Act.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the setting up of fast-track courts on July 23 amid nationwide youth protests over alleged irregularities in conducting competitive examinations.

Following the transfer, the paper leak cases, including those related to the 2026 undergraduate National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, will be heard by Special Judge Ajay Gupta.

Gupta had been hearing the NEET case before the fast-track court was constituted, The Indian Express reported.

The first proceedings in the fast-track court were deferred on July 27 after no counsel represented the Central Bureau of Investigation. The absence of the prosecutor was highlighted when the judge was to hear the bail applications of two men accused in the case.

Baliga, along with Vikas Dhull, Prashant Sharma, Amit Bansal, Kiran Bansal and Pulastya, has been appointed as special National Investigation Agency judge to hear cases related to terrorism.
