India opener Abhishek Sharma staged a miraculous return to form, scoring a mind-boggling 233 runs off 91 balls in a senior inter-district one-day game in Punjab. Playing in the Amritsar Men Senior side against Tarn Taran Men Senior at Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar on Sunday, the 19-year-old left-hander delivered one of the most devastating innings seen in domestic cricket.

Abhishek's blistering 25 sixes and 15 fours resulted in an incredible strike rate of 256.04 as he dismissed himself with a total of 533 for eight in 50 overs. The Indian batter managed to dispose of all of his 233 runs in boundaries alone. His 25 sixes contributed 150 runs, apart from his 15 fours that fetched 60 runs. Only 23 runs were scored through singles, doubles or triples.

Abhishek and Abhay Choudhary started the batting for Mumbai. The two made a wonderful opening stand of 305 for 1st wicket. They went past 300 in the 24.4 th over at a run rate of 12.5.

Although Abhishek was the star, Choudhary was a significant contributor, scoring 93 off 85 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes. Abhishek's dismissal did not stop Abhinav Sharma from continuing the run spree, who scored a quick 51 off 33 deliveries.

Batting performances of Amritsar were outstanding. The team smacked 41 sixes and 35 fours during the innings. Trying to chase this huge target, Tarn Taran Men Senior could get only 313 for eight in 50 overs. Arshdeep Singh was brilliant with 108 off 96 balls.

Another notable contribution came from Manpreet Singh Sandhu 62, but the target was big for the team.

Abhishek also contributed with the ball as he took 2 wickets for 71 runs from his 9 overs. Walia was the highest wicket-taker for Amritsar, claiming 4 for 49 in his overs. 846 runs were scored from 100 overs in the game.

The superb double hundred followed soon after Abhishek's poor T20I series against Zimbabwe. In the three matches, he scored just 1, 8 and 2 and concluded the series with a mere 11 runs, setting the stage for doubts over his position in India's T20I batting order.

While the innings occurred during the Punjab State Inter-District Senior One Day Limited Overs Tournament and will ultimately not be a part of an official List A record, it still served as a reminder to all that Abhishek was capable.

His 233 was nearly 44 per cent of the total for Amritsar; he hit a boundary almost every two deliveries. It displayed his bravery without any fear while tackling pace and spin, and it proved why he is still one of India's dangerous white-ball bats. More notably, it provided him with immense confidence for upcoming roles for India.
