Michael Carrick has said he is impressed by how swiftly summer signing Andrey Santos has settled at Manchester United.

Santos joined Manchester United from Chelsea earlier this summer in a deal worth £50m and has played a significant role during the club’s pre-season campaign.

The Brazilian was on the pitch for 82 minutes as the Red Devils beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm on Saturday, and Carrick spoke warmly about the 22-year-old after the match.

He described Santos as a selfless footballer and said the midfielder already looks like someone who has been at Manchester United for a ‘long time’.

“The way he approaches games, the way he plays for his teammates – he doesn’t play for himself,” Carrick said.

“He reads the game very well, is very intelligent and has settled in well here. It seems like he has been playing here for a long time. He is still young and has a lot more to contribute, which is very exciting for us.”

Santos is expected to be part of a reshaped midfield unit at Manchester United this season, alongside fellow new arrival Youri Tielemans.

United are still interested in bringing in a third midfielder this summer if they can, following Manuel Ugarte’s injury and Casemiro’s move to Inter Miami.
