Bizarre free-agent twist: tenth-tier club Flixton FC deny Jadon Sancho rumours

Jadon Sancho is currently without a club after his spell at Manchester United failed to go the way he would have wanted, and the latest development around his future may be the strangest one yet.

To keep himself fit, Sancho recently trained using the facilities of English tenth-tier amateur side Flixton FC. In German footballing terms, that level is roughly comparable to Kreisliga A.

A video in which Sancho spoke warmly about the amateur club’s facilities then triggered plenty of discussion. In the clip, he said: “You’ve got a really nice setup here. It’s my first time in this area, and it’s also the first time that I’ve seen such a good pitch [in this region] apart from United and City.”

That naturally led some to wonder whether the 26-year-old might be stepping away from the professional game and turning out only in amateur football.

With those rumours circulating, the club has now issued a statement to explain the real reason behind his visit.

“Jadon was neither on trial with us nor were there any kind of transfer talks. He simply used our facilities for a private training session to maintain his fitness while preparing for the next chapter of his career.”

In the statement published by Flixton, owner Christopher Garcia also praised Sancho’s professionalism, friendliness and grounded personality. He described Sancho as a “world-class footballer” who has achieved more in the game than most players could ever dream of, adding that he deserves respect for what he has accomplished.

Even so, there is still something amusing about a tenth-tier club having to publicly deny transfer speculation involving a player who was still featuring in the Premier League last season.
