Weather Alert: The weather is expected to change rapidly in many parts of the country over the next 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy and sometimes very heavy rainfall for several states, including Bihar. The continued active monsoon is expected to cause waterlogging, traffic jams, and flooding in low-lying areas. Therefore, people are advised to remain vigilant and monitor the latest weather updates.

These states, including Bihar, are likely to receive the most rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, very heavy rain is possible in Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, and some areas of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. In addition, heavy rain is also forecast at many places in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Konkan-Goa, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Monsoon is fully active, difficulties may increase

The IMD says the monsoon is currently active across most of the country, and this could lead to continued heavy rainfall in many states. Continuous rainfall could lead to waterlogging in cities, disruption of road connectivity in rural areas, and rising river levels.

When is it called heavy and very heavy rain?

According to the Meteorological Department’s standards, rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in a 24-hour period is considered heavy rain . Rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm is classified as very heavy rain . Such heavy rainfall in a short period of time significantly increases the risk of local flooding and waterlogging.

The Meteorological Department has urged people not to leave their homes without a valid reason during inclement weather.
