Former Guntur East MLA and YSRCP leader Shaik Mohammed Mustafa has been arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police in Gujarat in connection with a kidnapping case registered by Nuzvid Police.

The case links to a business dispute between Mustafa and tobacco trader Kadimi Suryachandram from Eluru district. Police said Mustafa and his son Basheer were booked under kidnapping charges and relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to the investigation, tobacco trader Suryachandram had been supplying tobacco to Mustafa's warehouse in Guntur. However, after a dispute over tobacco prices, Suryachandram stopped selling tobacco to Mustafa and began supplying another company.

Suryachandram's son Abhi, along with a driver and an employee, was transporting tobacco bales to Guntur when Basheer and his associates allegedly intercepted their vehicle near Nuzvid. Police said the group allegedly kidnapped the three men and demanded payment of pending dues before releasing them.

After receiving a call from his son Abhi who was in tears and informed his dad about his kidnap, Suryachandram alerted the police. Acting swiftly, Nuzvid Police coordinated with Pedakakani Police, following which the victims were brought safely to the police station by the accused.

However, Mustafa and Basheer allegedly fled and remained absconding. Following a search operation, Nuzvid Police traced Mustafa to Gujarat and arrested him. Efforts are underway to catch Basheer, while further investigation is in progress.
