WhatsApp blocked the accounts of many users, affecting India as well, Meta explained the reason.

New Delhi. Many users of the instant messaging platform WhatsApp faced a sudden account blockage on Monday evening. Several users, including those in India, claimed on social media that their accounts were placed under review without prior notice, preventing them from using the app for approximately 24 hours.

According to users, the issue began occurring around 8 p.m. Monday. Those affected reported that their accounts were temporarily disabled and they were unable to send or receive messages.

What did Meta say?
Responding to the issue, a Meta spokesperson stated that the company continuously takes action against those who misuse WhatsApp. Accounts with suspicious activity are investigated to maintain security and the safety of other users. The company also acknowledged that in some cases, accounts of ordinary users may be accidentally affected. In such cases, accounts are reactivated as soon as possible after the review is complete.

Users received this message
Affected users received a notification on WhatsApp stating that their accounts were under review. According to the message, the company was reviewing account activity and device information to ensure compliance with the platform’s rules. It also stated that the review would be completed and a response would be provided within 24 hours. The message also provided a link for more information and urged users to use WhatsApp responsibly.

User Outrage on Social Media
Following the account blockage, many users shared their concerns on Twitter (formerly Twitter). Some said they only use the official WhatsApp app and rely heavily on the platform for their personal and professional work. Therefore, the account blockage without any warning caused significant inconvenience. Meta currently states that the accounts that were mistakenly taken action against will be restored soon after the review is complete.
