Lucknow: Lucknow: The second day of the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly began amid uproar. As soon as the proceedings began, the opposition raised slogans and protested against the government on several issues. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, representing the Yogi Adityanath government, presented a supplementary budget of ₹59,019.54 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27. However, the uproar by Samajwadi Party MLAs continued even during the budget presentation.
The focus will be on development works and new schemes
Presenting the supplementary budget in the House, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna stated that its objectives are to ensure timely completion of ongoing development projects in the state, to provide additional financial resources for essential public welfare works, and to arrange funds for new schemes. He stated that this budget will give new impetus to the state’s development. The supplementary budget presented by the government includes a provision of ₹17,399.50 crore under the revenue account and ₹41,620.04 crore under the capital account.
Before the session began, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party would form the government with a thumping majority for the third consecutive time in the 2027 assembly elections. He said that the people of the state are experiencing development and good governance, and therefore trust in the BJP is steadily increasing.
Samajwadi Party targeted
Meanwhile, senior Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav criticized the government, saying that a supplementary budget is presented every year, but it remains underutilized. He alleged that the government repeatedly presents additional budgets to hide its failures.
Additionally, Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana spoke on the significance of “Vande Mataram,” saying that the song symbolizes India’s culture, pride, and national spirit. He appealed to all public representatives to understand its core message and purpose.
Minister Jaiveer Singh rejected
Minister Jaiveer Singh dismissed the opposition’s allegations, saying the government is continuously working to develop the state and address public problems. He said the opposition lacks any concrete issues and is merely creating a ruckus.
It should be noted that on the first day of the monsoon session, Samajwadi Party and Congress MLAs protested outside the Assembly over irregularities in the Ram Temple offerings and the NEET paper leak. A condolence motion was passed in the House for the passing of the oldest SP MLA, Alambadi, after which proceedings were adjourned until the next day. The second day is likely to feature the supplementary budget and the opposition cornering the government on various issues.
