Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin’s alleged offensive remarks about actress Trisha Krishnan have sparked political tensions in the state. Police have filed a case against him and reportedly detained him for questioning.
The controversy began with a statement made by Udhayanidhi Stalin at a public event. It was alleged that his speech contained insulting and obscene references to actress Trisha Krishnan. After a video of the speech went viral on social media, the opposition strongly criticized him. Actor Vijay’s TVK party strongly condemned the statement and filed an official police complaint. Based on this complaint, the police have launched a preliminary investigation.
According to reports, police have registered a case against Udhayanidhi Stalin under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was subsequently taken into custody for questioning. Police are investigating the video, the full audiotape of the speech, and other evidence in the case.
The controversy erupted after a DMK meeting in Thanjavur on Monday, where Udhayanidhi Stalin reportedly targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in response to slogans raised by party workers. During the protest, Stalin made derogatory remarks about Trisha. The protest, which began over the Cauvery water sharing dispute, quickly became a political issue.
Meanwhile, the DMK has come out in support of Udhayanidhi Stalin. The party has claimed that his statement has been distorted and alleged that the controversy has been created for political purposes. The DMK says that excerpts from the speech are being circulated without referring to the entire speech and are misleading the public. Meanwhile, the TVK has demanded strict action in this matter.
