Udhayanidhi Stalin Arrest:  Tamil Nadu politics was rocked on Tuesday. DMK leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained by the police in connection with a controversial statement. He was taken into police custody for his alleged comment on the friendship between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and actress Trisha while addressing a rally. Stalin alleged that a “false story” had been fabricated against him.

Speaking to the media after his detention, Udhayanidhi Stalin denied all allegations against him. He claimed that his statement had been “cut, copied, and pasted” and presented out of context .

He stated that he did not make any offensive comments against anyone and that his statement was distorted and spread on social media. Udhayanidhi stated that he is not intimidated by such allegations and will face the entire matter legally.

What’s the whole controversy?
The controversy began when Udhayanidhi was addressing a gathering and was interrupted by a section of the crowd chanting “Trisha, Trisha.” After a brief pause, he reportedly said, “Water should reach there, whether it reaches elsewhere or not,” and then clarified that he was referring to the Cauvery water. His double-meaning statement sparked outrage.

Following Udhayanidhi’s statement , the women’s wing
of actor Vijay’s party, the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), filed a complaint with the Thanjavur police. The complaint alleged that the DMK leader had made objectionable remarks targeting actress Trisha.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), IT Act and Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

Singer Chinmayi Sripada and actress-politician Khushbu Sundar also expressed their displeasure
as the controversy escalated. They condemned Udhayanidhi Stalin’s alleged remarks made from a public platform, calling them disrespectful to women.

Actress and BJP leader Khushbu Sundar also condemned Udhayanidhi’s statements, calling them “extremely vulgar, vile, and deeply offensive.” She wrote, “Listened to Udhayanidhi Stalin’s speech. It was utterly vulgar, vile, and deeply offensive; it reflects the very political culture he seems eager to embrace.”
