Chhattisgarh News: A review meeting was held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan regarding the implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Alternatives Scheme (SATAT) to promote affordable and clean transport in Chhattisgarh. The meeting, chaired by Subodh Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Energy Department, discussed in detail the production of Compressed Biogas (CBG), its use, and the progress of setting up CBG plants in the state.

Preparations for setting up CBG plant are in full swing.

Officials at the meeting stated that land is being identified for setting up CBG plants in various districts of the state, and the necessary procedures are being completed expeditiously. The state government is implementing the scheme under the Chhattisgarh CBG Policy 2026. Responsibilities for various departments have also been established to ensure the successful implementation of this policy, ensuring timely project completion.

Investors will get incentives

The meeting also discussed measures to encourage entrepreneurs and investors to set up CBG plants. Officials explained that the SATAT scheme is an initiative of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, and is being implemented across the country, including in Chhattisgarh. Under the scheme, oil marketing companies like Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL enter into contracts to purchase gas produced from CBG plants. This will relieve investors of market concerns and provide them with better business opportunities.

Both farmers and the environment will benefit

Through CBG plants, leftover farm stubble, paddy straw, animal waste, and other organic waste will be used to produce fuel. This will reduce air pollution caused by stubble burning and decomposing waste. Farmers will also gain additional income by selling agricultural residues and animal waste. This will also create new employment opportunities in rural areas, boosting the local economy.

The process of establishment started in eight cities

The meeting also reviewed the progress of setting up CBG plants in the state’s urban local bodies. Officials stated that the process of establishing CBG plants has been initiated in Bhilai, Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Korba, Ambikapur, and Raigarh. These projects aim to improve waste management, increase clean energy production, and accelerate sustainable development.

Several departments will jointly operate the scheme.

The meeting was attended by officials from Transport, Energy, Panchayat and Rural Development, Urban Administration, Livestock Development, Environment Protection Board, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Food and Civil Supplies, Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, State Renewable Energy Development Authority, CSIDC, and oil marketing companies. All departments agreed to work together in coordination to effectively implement the plan and promote clean energy in the state.
