Many users of the Metaverse-owned messaging platform WhatsApp suddenly faced problems. Users in various countries, including India, complained that their WhatsApp accounts were placed under review, causing several features of the app to stop working. For some users, this ban lasted for up to 24 hours.

The issue surfaced around 8 PM (IST) on Monday night. According to users, their accounts were investigated without any prior notification. However, the total number of users affected by this issue is not yet known.

‘Under Review’ message appears on WhatsApp account
Affected users reported that upon opening WhatsApp, they saw a message stating that their account was being checked to make sure it follows the platform’s policies. The message read, “Account in review. Your account activity and device info is being checked to make sure it follows our terms of service. We will notify you of the result typically within 24 hours.”

During this time, users were unable to use WhatsApp’s normal features. Many reported experiencing problems sending messages or chatting.

Users expressed their displeasure on social media.
Several WhatsApp users shared screenshots of the issue on the social media platform WhatsApp. Users complained that their accounts went under review for no apparent reason, forcing them to temporarily disconnect from the app. Some users said that the account shutdown caused them inconvenience while traveling or on important work. Many urged WhatsApp to improve its review system.

What did WhatsApp say?
WhatsApp clarified the matter, stating that the company consistently takes action against accounts that misuse the platform. However, legitimate accounts can sometimes be mistakenly affected. A WhatsApp spokesperson stated that the company bans accounts with inappropriate activity to protect users, but if a legitimate account is mistakenly targeted, efforts are made to rectify it as quickly as possible.

The company stated that efforts are underway to resolve the issue soon.
WhatsApp also stated that it has identified the issue and is working on a solution. The company aims to provide a safe and efficient messaging experience for its users, but due to automated systems, sometimes fraudulent accounts can be investigated.

Currently, affected users must wait for the account review to complete. The company has assured users that it attempts to resolve such issues quickly.
