Technology Desk – Nowadays, almost every smartphone user uses YouTube and Instagram. Some learn new things by watching videos on YouTube, while others prefer to view Reels, photos, and creators’ content on Instagram.
But sometimes ads that appear in between videos or posts can ruin the user experience. Especially when a long ad starts before a short video is even ready to be watched, or if sponsored posts repeatedly appear in the Instagram feed.
However, since platforms like YouTube and Instagram generate a significant portion of their revenue from ads, removing them completely isn’t easy. However, with a few settings and methods, the number of ads can be significantly reduced.
Ways to Reduce Ads on YouTube
Use YouTube Premium
The easiest and most official way to remove ads on YouTube is to subscribe to YouTube Premium. This allows users to avoid seeing ads during videos. It also provides features like background playback, offline video downloads, and YouTube Music.
Use Ad Blocker Extension
If you watch YouTube on a computer or laptop, you can reduce ads using browser extensions. Extensions like AdBlock, Adblock Plus, or uBlock Origin are available for browsers like Chrome and Firefox. These help block many of the ads that appear before and during videos.
Use Brave Browser
Brave Browser comes with a built-in Ad Blocker feature. If you use Brave Browser on your mobile or computer to access YouTube, many ads may be automatically blocked. However, it’s not always possible to completely remove all ads.
Ways to Reduce Ads on Instagram
Hide Sponsored Ads
If you see a sponsored ad in your Instagram feed that you don’t want to see, you can minimize it.
For this:
Tap the three dots above the sponsored post.
Select the Hide Ad option.
Provide a reason for not showing the ad.
This helps Instagram understand your likes and dislikes and may show you fewer similar ads in the future.
Edit Ad Preferences
To change your ad settings on Instagram:
Open your profile.
Go to Account Center.
Select Ad Preferences.
Here, users can narrow down the topics they want to see less ads about. Additionally, they can view information about recently displayed ads under Recent Ad Activity.
Using Instagram on a browser can also help.
If you use a browser like Chrome instead of the Instagram mobile app and use an ad blocker, some ads may be less visible.
However, this method doesn’t necessarily work the same on every device or in every situation. Both YouTube and Instagram are ad-based platforms, so eliminating ads completely isn’t always possible. However, with the right settings and a few tools, users can improve their experience.
