Immediately after the match ended with a commanding win for Vietnam on Indonesian soil on Monday night, Hubner posted a defiant message on social media.
“They forgot what we did with them in the World Cup qualifiers,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

Vietnam and Indonesia played two key matches in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in March 2024, where Indonesia won both games (1-0 and 3-0).
Hubner later left another comment in a local football page on Instagram.
“In a non-official FIFA tournament. Well done. We will get you again in official games. Congrats,” he wrote.

Hubner’s comments quickly spread across social media platforms and attracted the attention of many football fans in the region.
While some supporters agreed with Hubner’s confidence, many fans felt that his bold statement could not erase the reality of Indonesia’s poor performance on the pitch.
“Look at how Indonesia lost so miserably at home,” one account commented.
“Even without their strongest squad, Indonesia still need to review their recent performance,” another wrote.
Hubner was not included in coach John Herdman’s squad for the 2026 ASEAN Cup. According to Indonesian sports outlet Bola, his club in the Netherlands, Fortuna Sittard, refused to release him for the competition. The club argued that the ASEAN Cup is not an official tournament managed by FIFA, giving them the right to retain their players.

The 22-year-old will be available for the national team in the next regional tournament, the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup, which will take place within the international break from Sept. 21 to Oct. 6. During that time, clubs have to release the players back to their national teams.
Hubner completed his naturalization process and began playing for Indonesia in 2024. To date, the defender has made 21 appearances for the Garuda, scoring one goal.
At the club level, the center-back also scored two goals in 21 appearances for Fortuna Sittard in last season.
